The Baxter County Library will be hosting the national touring theatrical troupe Act!vated Story Theatre with a recorded performance specially edited for virtual presentation. The video of the performance will be available to library patrons for two weeks, beginning on July 9 and ending July 23.
The recorded virtual program will consist of two of the troupe's most popular stories: Hina Moves to the Moon and The Tortoise and the Hare. Hina Moves to the Moon is about the Hawaiian origin myth of a phenomenal seamstress who takes her skill to the moon to escape her unhappy life on earth. The Tortoise and the Hare is a rather comical take on Aesop's classic fable, with the hare wanting to be the star of the show, but he is upstaged by the patient and persistent tortoise. Act!vated Story Theatre doesn’t just tell stories, they “Act!vate” them.
The Act!vated Story Theatre troupe decided to offer this virtual program to libraries nationwide this summer. The performers recorded 14 hours of video from several camera angles, then spent three weeks editing it in a more cinematic style than a live performance. The intent is to give the viewers the feeling of being drawn into the action, at times as if being on the stage with the performers, or taking a peek backstage.
