Get ready for summer reading. The Baxter County Library has an outstanding lineup of summer programs starting Saturday, June 5 through Saturday, August 14. It all starts with an outdoor Summer Reading Kick-Off event in the Library parking lot, June 5, 10:00am-1:00pm. Enjoy activities and fun games, such as sidewalk chalk and bubbles and a special visit from animals from the Dickerson Park Zoo, 10:30am-11:30am. During the Kick-Off, kids can pick up their summer reading packets, enjoy a treat, and have fun. Summer reading packets contain instructions for participating in the Library’s summer reading program, which encourages children and teens to read all summer. Participants receive prizes for the amount of reading they do. Plus, summer reading has another benefit – it prevents the “summer slide,” by helping children retain the reading skills they developed the previous school year.
Registration for summer classes will also open June 5. Many of the classes are offered at multiple dates and times. Pick the time that best works with your schedule. Summer classes include science, art, cooking and more. Throughout the summer, the Library will have summer meals, family movie nights, special storytimes with fun characters like Olaf from Disney’s Frozen, Try Something New Nights, and much more Come out to celebrate reading, collect prizes, enjoy delicious treats, and hangout with Pete the Cat. Summer Reading is a fun filled event all summer long.
