It is very important to bring awareness to early literacy in Baxter County. Through the efforts of the Baxter County Early Literacy Project, over 700 books have been distributed to children through the seven Little Free Library locations so far this year. The folks on the committee for Early Literacy encourage parents to sit and read with their child, take a book from one of the Little Free Libraries, take it home, keep it, read it, and cherish it. If you decide you are done or have older books you no longer need, place them in a Little Free Library for other children to enjoy. These small Libraries are yellow boxes so they are easily seen and are found at Cooper Park, Mountain Home Kindergarten, Norfork Head Start, Gassville City Park, Quail Run Apartments, Mountain Station Apartments, and Big Spring Park in Cotter.
If you have young children, the committee would like to invite you to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to receive a free book in the mail each month until your child turns five, and join the 1000 books before Kindergarten to help prepare your young child for school. Registration forms are available at the Baxter County Library or register online at https://imaginationlibrary.com/us/affiliate/ARBAXTER/.
