The Baxter County Library will begin offering item pick-up service Thursday, May 21. Books, audio books, and movies can be placed on hold and will be set out on tables in the Library's foyer for pick-up Monday - Thursday, 10:00am - 5:00pm.
To place items on hold, visit baxlib.org, enter your Library card number and PIN (your eight-digit birth date) to access your account, browse the collection, and put up to five items on hold. Once items have been placed on hold, you will be contacted when they are ready for pick up.
If you already had items on hold, they are still on hold, and you will be hearing from the Library when they are ready for pick-up. The limit is 5 items at a time, so if you already have some items checked out, you will need to return those first. The outside book drop is open for returns. When items are returned, they are placed on a 7-day quarantine before becoming available for checkout again.
Library Director Kim Crow Sheaner shares, " Pick-up service is the first step in the process of reopening the Library to the public with safety measures in place. I appreciate the public's patience as we ramp up this holds pick-up service, as it will take a little while to get through all of the holds. Library staff are so glad to make this service available to the community."
A date for reopening the Library has not been set yet. "With a building that normally welcomes 600 people per day on average, seven days a week, we have to take every precaution," Crow Sheaner says. "We are in the process of rearranging furniture, stocking up on disinfecting supplies, installing plexi-glass dividers at service points, and the like." In the meantime, she encourages everyone to continue to use the wealth of on-line resources on the Library's website at baxlib.org, including a large assortment of eBooks and eAudiobooks.
