The Baxter County Library has joined other Libraries statewide to provide public access to WiFi services during closures brought on as a symptom of the COVID-19 outbreak. Despite many closures across the state, Libraries are still engaging with their local communities providing invaluable services with eBooks and eAudioBooks, through virtual storytimes, and providing help to patrons directly over the phone.
Arkansas State Librarian Carolyn Ashcraft affirms that “WiFi available in libraries’ parking lots will provide a key resource for students’ and families’ ability to complete school activities during this time.” The Arkansas State Library website has provided a parking lot WiFi map and spreadsheet to find participating library locations. Go to https://library.arkansas.gov/landing-page/details/covid-19-resources-for-libraries to find more information and to access the WiFi map or spreadsheet.
“Connecting people to educational resources, news and information is more important than ever right now,” says Carolyn. “Libraries are embracing technology and figuring out ways to safely provide basic services. Libraries are essential, and while they may be closed for safety reasons, they are not out of commission. This is what libraries have always done – adjusted to meet the needs of their communities.”
You can access WiFi from the Baxter County Library parking lot during certain times of the day. 6:00am-9:00pm Monday through Friday, 7:00am-9:00pm on Saturday, and 10:00am-6:00pm on Sunday. The WiFi password is 12345678. Anyone using the Library parking lot WiFi is encouraged to stay inside their vehicle and practice social distancing.
