Guest Speaker Coming from the Arkansas State Library

Join the Friends of the Baxter County Library for their public meeting with special guest speaker Jennifer Chilcoat, Arkansas State Librarian, on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1:30pm-3:00pm, outside the Library under the big tent. Attendees will learn about the vital role the Arkansas State Library plays, in particular with their support of public libraries, and what hot topics are currently on the State Library’s radar.

Jennifer Chilcoat has enjoyed 30 years of library experience, including 28 years in Arkansas public libraries, where she worked in just about every role a public library has.  Since coming to the Arkansas State Library in 2018, she first served as Deputy Director and State Data Coordinator.  During that time, she also spearheaded ASL’s statewide efforts to harness the power of libraries in achieving a complete count for the 2020 Census. She became State Librarian in June of 2020 and is having a blast, leading an amazing team in serving Arkansas' state employees, public libraries, and residents experiencing blindness and other print disabilities.

Jennifer earned a Master of Library Science in Information Science from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and Bachelor’s degrees in English and German, also from UTK. She currently coordinates a Parenting of Teens class at Second Presbyterian Church, and spends many hours as an Assistant Scoutmaster for BSA Troop 30 in Little Rock.

It’s a delight seeing someone so qualified speak on behalf of the Friends. If you want to learn more about the Friends of the Baxter County Library go to www.baxlib.org.
