Goldilocks and the Three Bears Puppet Show and Shadow Puppet Workshop

The Baxter County Library is hosting a virtual performance of Goldilocks and the Three Bears with Stevens Puppets August 5-6 on baxlib.org. Children can also participate in a three-part shadow puppet workshop taught by Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory available now through August 31.

With Stevens Puppets, join a family of bears as they encounter different perspectives and values, ultimately sharing a common purpose with a salmon and resolving their conflict with a golden-haired trespasser, who learns precious lessons from them as well as from her bald eagle companion about respect, kindness, apologizing, and forgiveness. Hand-carved wooden marionettes bring this story to life with charming literary rhymes, alliterations, and idioms which engage, educate, and amuse. Hand-painted scenery presents Southeast Alaska in splendid color and authenticity. To watch the 45 minute show, visit baxlib.org on August 5 and 6 to access the link from the homepage, calendar, or visit the “Children’s & Tween Library” section of the website. Stevens Puppets performance is graciously sponsored by Mendel and Stephanie Hughes.

To take part in Matt Sandbank’s shadow puppet workshop, visit the calendar at baxlib.org and check out the events titled “Science of Shadows,” “Making Shadow Puppets,” and “Elements of Poetry” for instructions on how to log on. The workshop features three self-paced classes, and each workshop features a fun mix of shadow skits, artist guidance, and simple at-home activities presented in brief, readily accessible videos that children can easily navigate. These workshops are appropriate for children aged 7-11, but may also be enjoyed by younger children who are assisted by an adult. The total length of each workshop is approximately 30 minutes.
