With a new year upon us, the Baxter County Library is excited for what’s ahead in 2022. All programs, events and exhibits for the new year are created for our community by dedicated Library staff with the sole purpose to inspire imagination, ignite interests and enable learning.
Each month Library collection development professionals are on the hunt to bring in new books - anything from romance novels to how-to books, fact or fiction, something to capture the imagination and/or learn something new. New for 2022, is a program called Book Club in a Bag. Each bag includes a set of 5 book club books with a list of discussion questions in a canvas bag. You can use this opportunity to start your own book club or read with friends.
There are always story times throughout the month for children ages 0-5. This year, the Library is adding Big Adventure Story Time for grades K-3. Super Simple Snacks for grades K-3 and Simply Tween Recipes for grades 4-6 are always a big hit, as well as craft making for all ages.
For Teen’s the Library is introducing a new program called Doodle & Jam. Teen writers, artists, and musicians can come to the Library to create and perform together.
During the school year the Baxter County Library in collaboration with the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas and USDA provide after school meals at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County for kids 18 and under every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3-4pm.
For Adults, the Library is bringing back technology classes for those who need a little help with using a computer or iPad. There are also book clubs, Yoga, craft workshops and genealogy and history classes.
Literature fans get ready, because in the spring the Read | Write | Ignite Literary Series is back with an exciting line-up of guest authors. Children of all ages can look forward to the fun-filled, Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading program.
Our Friends of the Library members will be holding their used books sales in February, May, August and November. Plus, an auction in April. Remember, the proceeds from the Friends of the Library book sales benefit Library programs and services.
A community favorite, The Art Odyssey artists’ studio tour, will be back in the fall along with a new exhibit, Diamonds, from the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock.
The Baxter County Early Literacy Project will be continuing its outreach programs aimed at preparing all Baxter County children with the early literacy skills they need to start Kindergarten.
The Baxter County on-line Library at baxlib.org is full of wonderful resources, and best of all is always open. You can find online tutors for all ages and levels or expert job coaches to help with resume building and job interviews with Brainfuse. Or browse Creativebug with over 1,000 how-to arts and crafts video classes, Mango, an on-line language learning tool, Goodreads, a place for friends to discover and share books.
