Why join a book club?! Studies show reading is good for the brain's physical structure and soft social skills like intelligence and empathy. It's a great way to make new friends, bridge differences of opinion, and bring people together. In a book club, you can discover new books that you might have overlooked – you might find a new favorite.
At the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County, there are three ways to join a book club. Our Adult Services Coordinators have a virtual book club with Mariah, in-person at the Library with Vincent, and a brand-new program, Book Club in a Bag.
Join Mariah's virtual All Booked Book Club on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6 pm. You can find five copies of each book located behind the front desk for checkout, or you can find a digital copy for checkout on Library2Go. You can read ahead or stay up to date! All books for the year are now available. The book for February 15 is “Things You Save in a Fire” by Katherine Center. You can find the Zoom link on our website at baxlib.org.
Join Vincent's Issues & Viewpoints here at the Donald W. Reynolds Library on the 1st Wednesday of the month 1:30pm. There are copies of each book located behind the front desk for check out. You can read ahead or stay up to date! All books for the year are now available. February 2 is “American Wolf: A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West” – by Nate Blakeslee.
With Book Club in a Bag, you can check out a canvas bag that includes at least five book club books with a list of discussion questions for your group. This month's books will consist of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, Oil and Marble by Stephanie Storey, One Day in December by Josie Silver, All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda, and The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis. Book Club in a Bag is an excellent opportunity to start your book club or discover new books with friends.
